Choosing the right furniture for your conservatory may require some planning. To get some good suggestions about what type of furniture to fit in your conservatory, then read on.
It's wonderful when you finish building your conservatory. But then you need to fill it with the right kind of furniture for your needs. And that means deciding what you want to do in the room first.
One popular use is as a dining room. In this situation you will need to find a table and chairs that will look good in the room and take into account its dimensions. Measure the space and think about the table size you want. How many people would you like to cater for? Could you fit all the chairs in without it being too cramped? Think about this carefully before selecting your ideal table.
But if a dining room isn't what you want to use it for, what other items of furniture would work well in the room?
A casual space is often very successful. There are many suites and armchairs that are designed for a conservatory. Look for lighter materials such as wicker and rattan - these are ideally suited to the lighter feel a conservatory offers. They are also very comfortable.
Look for a matching coffee table as well, since these often come with the armchairs. A nest of tables is another nice idea, but both will allow you some practical surfaces to use for sitting your coffee mug down on, or perhaps even that book you are reading. And why not add a magazine rack too? This would complete the conservatory as a relaxing venue to wind down in.
Always make sure the furniture you select is ideal for the conservatory though. Sometimes certain fabrics can fade in the sun, and you don't want this to happen if you can help it. It happens particularly with darker colours, so watch out for what you choose and make sure the materials are suitable for withstanding the heat and light on a regular basis.
You could also use your conservatory as a nice open office space. An occasional space is easy to set up if you buy a computer unit that sits very compactly in a corner. Otherwise you could take up a whole wall with low computer desks that look out onto the garden. Either way the rest of the room could be given over to other items of furniture such as casual chairs.
Lots of kids like to use the conservatory as a playroom too. You could buy a smaller table and chairs that are just the right size for the kids, as well as scattering a few soft beanbags around on the floor. Storage boxes could be bought to sit underneath the window sills of the conservatory, providing you with a multi-purpose feature. You can store the toys away in them and put flat cushions on top to provide additional seating as well.
Any conservatory can be used for a multitude of purposes. Deciding what you will use yours for will make it easier to select the right items of furniture. Think about the construction of your conservatory as well - if it is open and has windows on all sides and doors leading into the house, you won't have as much wall space to play with. There are always solutions though, such as low bookcases instead of tall ones.
Just make sure you think about how you are going to use the room before you buy the ideal furniture for it. It will make your purchasing decisions far easier.
